Bayern Munich hosted Borussia Dortmund in a Matchday 8 fixture in the first Der Klassiker of the German Bundesliga 2026-27 on Saturday night. The top-of-the-table clash between the two arch-rivals took place at the Allianz Arena.
The two teams are level on 17 points at the top of the table. Bayern, led by assistant coach Aaron Danks in the absence of Vincent Kompany, will need to secure all three points at home to retain their place at the top.
However, Die Roten will be without two key players for the derby. Luis Diaz and Manuel Neuer are ruled out for the clash. Both players were absent from Bayern’s matchday squad for the match.

Luis Diaz was missing from tonight’s clash because of an injury he sustained during Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Arsenal on October 21.
Following medical examinations, Bayern confirmed that the Colombian winger suffered a minor muscle fibre tear in his left hamstring. The Bundesliga side confirmed that the 29-year-old would be unavailable for the foreseeable future.
In his absence, Serge Gnabry started on the left wing against Dortmund.
Another key player who did not feature in tonight’s match was captain Manuel Neuer. The German goalkeeper was nursing a foot injury and had missed Bayern’s two previous games. His last appearance came in Die Roten’s Champions League clash against Arsenal almost two weeks ago.
Ahead of the match, Aaron Danks confirmed that Neuer had not recovered in time to make the matchday squad.
“Unfortunately, tomorrow’s game is a little bit early for Manuel Neuer. He still has pain in his foot,” Danks said.
23-year-old Jonas Urbig started between the sticks for the hosts in Der Klassiker.
