Will Lionel Messi play in the fifth-ever MLS All-Star matchup?

The Major League Soccer (MLS) players will be locking horns with the stars from the Liga MX for the 2026 MLS All-Star Game. The Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, is all set to witness this electrifying contest between these two leagues.

There have already been four All-Star Games between MLS and Liga MX. Three of them have ended in favour of Major League Soccer. It was only once that the Mexican league stars came out on top.

Many new faces have joined the leagues from the top European leagues, but not all of them will be seen in action. American top division will bring 29 players from 21 of their clubs. Charlotte FC’s Dean Smith is managing the MLS All-Stars.

Son Heung-min and Thomas Müller are all set to be the top stars in the lineup. Looking at the lineup, the Major League Soccer side have a better quality squad. They are going to have a slight edge over their opponents.

Will Lionel Messi play for MLS All-Stars?

One of the biggest names, Inter Miami‘s Lionel Messi, is not going to be a part of the 2026 MLS All-Star Game. The 39-year-old helped Argentina reach the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. He is currently on break after the mega competition.

Since the start of the MLS 2026 season, Leo Messi has been on a phenomenal run of form. In 14 appearances for Inter Miami, he has scored 12 goals and has seven assists to his name. The 39-year-old scored eight goals and had four assists during the World Cup 2026.

Recent MLS joinees Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann are also not named to the MLS All-Stars squad.
