Newcastle United could be without their first-choice strikers

Callum Wilson and Alexander Issak are still seriously doubtful due to sickness ahead of Newcastle United’s vital trip to Manchester United tomorrow night.

Prior to the journey to Old Trafford, neither attacker had the opportunity to practice on Monday. It is anticipated that they will recover in time to play, but their participation is by no means assured.

Midway through the second half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton, Eddie Howe pulled Isak from the game due to an apparent sickness, and Wilson did not play against the Seagulls.

“We haven’t seen Callum yet,” admitted the Magpies boss. “We’ll have to see if he’s available to train. If not, then I’m sure he’ll be fit for Brentford.

“Alexander has also been suffering with illness. I don’t think it’s a serious illness, but he wasn’t able to train either. Again, we’ll have to see if he’s able to train. Fingers crossed, he will, but he wasn’t feeling 100 per cent at the weekend, and I think you could see that.

“He’s been so good in recent weeks, athletically as well as technically. You can see that from all the goals that he scored, but we knew on Friday that he was slightly under the weather.”

Isak appears to be the more likely starting tomorrow as Newcastle attempts to get closer to a European spot for the upcoming campaign. If the Magpies triumph, they would have accomplished their first league double against Manchester United since the 1930–1931 campaign.

In December, they defeated Erik ten Hag’s team 1-0 on Tyneside. If they win, they’ll end higher than Manchester United for the first time in their Premier League history and make sure they don’t go any lower than seventh this year.

Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Joelinton, and Miguel Almiron were all on the bench during the weekend, marking the return of several injured players for Howe in recent weeks.
