Three Inter Miami players are heading to the World Cup!

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is right around the corner, with the excitement for football’s grandest tournament increasing with every passing countdown.

The 2026 edition is set to reach several milestones, marking the competition as one of the historic campaigns of all time. Co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, it will be the first World Cup to be hosted by three countries simultaneously. It will feature a record 48 teams, an increase from the previous 32, to provide growing opportunities for some of the developing football nations.

The tournament is also designed to foster support for football clubs. FIFA has upgraded the Club Benefits Programme (CBP) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing the previous structure. Under this system, FIFA will distribute $355 million to clubs for releasing their players for the World Cup. Represented sides are set to make an estimated daily amount between $11,000 to $15,000 per player.

With the new payment structure, clubs worldwide are expected to receive payments, to encourage the teams to develop more young talents for future competitions. A represented club will now receive a minimum estimated amount of $150,000 per player, even if that particular player’s side gets eliminated in the group stages.

Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Inter Miami CF will be one such club currently set to explore FIFA’s new structure. The side is in incredible form this season, with the team currently 2nd in the MLS Eastern Conference and 4th in overall standings.

Argentina national football team have called up most players from the club, with two players – Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul set to feature for their nation.

Lionel Messi has been one of the influential figures in world football, with the player managing 20 G/A in 14 matches for the side. Messi has been an instrumental figure for Argentina, guiding the squad to the 2022 FIFA World Cup victory. Rodrigo De Paul was a vital player in midfield during the title campaign, with the player being regarded by Lionel Scaloni for his exceptional defensive prowess.

The Canada national football team, the tournament co-hosts, has called up goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair to their World Cup squad. The player managed two clean sheets for Inter Miami this season and will be serving as a reliable backup option for Jesse Marsch’s side.
