Argentina predicted lineup for Copa America 2024
Lionel Messi and Co will aim to win the tournament for the 16th time.
Argentina are favourites to win the Copa America. They look like a genuine threat to the rest of the teams due to their quality and recent form heading into this tournament.
They are the current champions who will defend their crown this year. Argentina are one of the successful teams alongside Uruguay in this competition having won it for a record 15 times. With Lionel Messi in incredible form and Scolani in charge of the national team, Argentina are destined to once again claim the trophy. La Albiceleste are drawn in Group A alongside Canada, Chile, and Peru. They will take on Canada in the opening match.
Argentina predicted lineup: (Formation: 4-3-3)
GK: Emiliano Martinez
Emiliano Martinez has become a world-class goalkeeper who played a massive role in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup triumph. He played a crucial role in the dying minutes to prevent France from winning the final while also becoming the hero in the penalty shootout in the same match.
He was also awarded the best goalkeeper of the same year for his outstanding season. Now, he has the chance to lead his nation to another victory in this summer’s Copa America. He helps out his defense by putting his body in line to remove the danger from set pieces. Martinez is also good at one-on-one situations as strikers often find it difficult to score against him.
RB: Nahuel Molina
Nahuel Molina is an outstanding right-back who is known for his work ethic and ability to play his role in both halves excellently. He had a good season with Atletico Madrid where he developed his game under one of the best managers Diego Simeone who has improved his all-round game. This season he has made 46 appearances for the team scoring two goals and providing five assists. Molina broke into the side in 2021 and since then he has made 37 appearances for the national team scoring one goal.
CB: Cristian Romero
Cristian Romero is a robust defender who likes to tackle the opposition using his pace and physicality. He is also a threat from set-pieces having scored a few goals from corners this season. Romero currently plays club football for Tottenham Hotspur with whom he has made 33 appearances scoring five goals. Romero made his debut for the national team in 2021 and since then he has made 31 appearances for the team netting three goals. He will now aim to play a crucial role for the team in this tournament alongside Martinez.
CB: Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martinez possesses extreme qualities at the back often flourishing when distributing the ball from the back to turn it into attacks. He had a mixed campaign this season with Manchester United after he missed most of the campaign due to injuries. But when he came into the side in the FA Cup final against Manchester City he helped the team win it. This is due to his excellent ball-playing abilities and also because of the aggressiveness he brings to the team which helps him dominate opponents with ease.
LB: Marcos Acuna
Marcos Acuna plays club football for Sevilla where he has appeared 149 times. He is one of the most underrated left-backs who doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves. He has always been a reliable defender for the national team, consistently making impressive appearances for the team. He has already made over 57 appearances for the team.
RM: Rodrigo De Paul
Rodrigo De Paul has cemented his place in the national team after a series of impressive performances in the middle of the park for the team. He is the one who does the dirty work for the team sliding in tackles and interceptions to keep the defense intact. He had an excellent tournament in the World Cup and will hope to make a similar impact for the team in this tournament. He broke into the national team in 2018, and since then he has made over 63 appearances scoring two goals.
CM: Alexis Mac Allister
Alexis Mac Allister had an incredible season with Liverpool helping the team qualify for the Champions League. He is also versatile and can play as a defensive midfielder and attacking midfielder due to his excellent abilities with the ball at his feet. He is also a powerhouse who covers a lot of ground for the team. Allister is equally dangerous from the edge of the box having scored some spectacular goals this season. He has already become a mainstay in the team after impressing Scolani with his performance in the middle of the park.
LM: Enzo Fernández
Enzo Fernandez had a below-par season compared to the standard he set himself after announcing his presence to the world with his performance for Argentina at the 2022 World Cup. He plays club football for Chelsea with whom he has made 28 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting two. He broke into the national team in 2021 making over 22 appearances for the team, scoring four goals. Enzo is a box-to-box midfielder who finds himself in goal-scoring positions due to his ability to find spaces.
LW: Ángel Di María
Ángel Di Maria is probably one of the finest widemen in world football. It was he who netted the winner against Brazil which handed Argentina the Copa America last time. Di Maria seems to be improving with age after enjoying another successful season at Benfica. He made 28 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing ten assists. Now, he has the chance to replicate his goal-scoring form for the team again.
ST: Julián Álvarez
Julian Alvarez had an impressive season with Manchester City, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists. Most of these appearances have come from the bench after failing to establish himself due to Haaland. However, his record with Argentina has been incredible with seven goals for them. He had an excellent run for the team in the World Cup where his movements and speed caused trouble for the opposition defences. Now, he will aim to play a vital role for the team in Copa America after winning the Premier League with Manchester City.
RW: Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi is arguably one of the best players in the world who has conquered every trophy there is to be won. His quest for the World Cup also ended in 2022 after he helped the team win it by scoring seven goals and assisting another three. Messi has started the league season on fire for Inter Miami. He has scored 12 goals in 12 appearances for the team and provided nine assists. Now, he will have the chance to lead his nation again to glory in this summer’s Copa America which begins shortly.
