Bosnia & Herzegovina announce squad for 2026 World Cup playoff semifinal against Wales

Bosnia and Herzegovina will play the World Cup for the second time in their history.

The official countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada has started. Bosnia and Herzegovina are the first qualifying country to make their final team public.

Following a historic qualification campaign in which Bosnia defeated Italy, head coach Sergej Barbarez revealed the 26 players who will represent the Balkan nation. The Europeans, led by talented players like Edin Dzeko, Sead Kolasinac, and Ermedin Demirovic, aim to be among the tournament’s dark horses.

Esmir Bajraktarević of PSV Eindhoven is the player creating the most enthusiasm. This is aside from 40-year-old Edin Džeko, who will compete in the final World Cup of his career and arrive as Bosnia’s all-time top scorer with 73 goals.

Bajraktarević, who is only 21 years old, is the future of Bosnian football. The winger, who previously played for US junior teams before formally joining Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2024, makes his way back to his birthplace on the largest stage.
