Endrick is only second to Pele in Brazil’s history to score in back-to-back games before turning 18.
With the shirt number allocated to Endrick for this summer’s Copa America, the new Real Madrid striker has received the clearest indication that he is the future of Brazil’s attack.
Endrick has made just four senior games for Brazil to date, none of which were played as a starter. He will not turn 18 until a week after the Copa America final.
However, he will replicate the famed number nine shirt worn by the Selecao during the tournament, joining the likes of legendary players like Ronaldo and 1970 World Cup winner Tostao.
Richarlison, who donned the jersey at the most recent FIFA World Cup in 2022 and Gabriel Jesus, who sported it at the last two Copa America games and the 2018 World Cup, have been left off the roster.
Endrick is the second individual in the entire history of the national team, behind Pele, to score in back-to-back games before turning eighteen. He has worn the number 21 on his back for Brazil in all of his substitution appearances thus far.
These goals occurred in March matches against Spain at the Bernabeu, his first of what should be many goals there, and England at Wembley, where he scored the game’s winning goal.
Of the other most well-known Brazilian shirts from this summer, Vinicius Junior was given number seven, the same as he wears at Real Madrid, while Rodrygo, his soon-to-be teammate, was given number ten.
It is not yet known what Endrick’s Madrid shirt number is. Although he might wind up being the team’s long-term number nine, Kylian Mbappe is anticipated to wear that number for the first time the following season as he waits for Luka Modric to clear out of position ten in 2025.
If Brahim Diaz were to switch shirts, the number 21 would become accessible, and 15 would most certainly be since Federico Valverde is trading down to eight.
