The Selecao are looking to win their sixth World Cup.
Brazil, five-time World Cup winners, will face African heavyweights Morocco at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday. It will kick off their Group C campaign for the 2026 World Cup.
While the Selecao are eager to make apologies for their quarter-final loss in Qatar (2022) four years ago, the Atlas Lions have a tremendous job in replicating their surprise semi-final performance.
Brazil are the most successful nation in World Cup history. They have played 114 games, winning 74 games and five trophies. They are also the only team to have competed in every edition of the global showpiece since the tournament’s inception in 1930.
However, they have not claimed the renowned golden trophy since 2002; their current 24-year drought is identical to their historic dry run from 1970 to 1994, which was eventually broken on American territory.

Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, Neymar, is still healing from a grade two calf injury. He is unlikely to be available for Saturday’s encounter. Meanwhile, right-back Wesley has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a muscle injury received in a friendly win over Egypt.
Ederson, a Manchester United midfielder, received a late call-up to the group. He is thought to have been tested in the right-back position during training. Carlo Ancelotti’s other right-sided defenders are Danilo and Roger Ibanez.
Premier League stars Alisson Becker, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Bruno Guimaraes are all expected to play, as are Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and FC Barcelona’s Raphinha. Meanwhile, Ancelotti will decide whether to start Matheus Cunha, Endrick, or Igor Thiago as his central striker.
