The 139th edition was sealed by the Bhoys

Celtic lifted the Scottish Cup 2023-24 by a 1-0 scoreline. They were up against Rangers. It was the substitute Adam Idah who won them the cup in the last minutes of the match.

The 139th edition of the Scottish Cup kicked off at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland. The Celtic side led by Brendan Rodgers featured former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart in the between the sticks while former Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was one of the ten outfield players in the starting XI.

The Rangers side was led by Philippe Clement. Clement started out with what looked like a 4-2-3-1 formation. It had loanee Fábio Silva from Wolves, a Premier League side, on the left flank. With Ben Davies providing a centre-back pairing with Leon Balogun, Jack Butland was holding things in between the goalposts.

The first half wasn’t too shiny as the 0-0 was the scoreline when both sides entered the tunnel in the break. The Bhoys looked more dangerous in the final third with the likes of Callum McGregor and Daizen Maeda proving good quality selections. Still, it was the Gers who had grown stronger towards the end.

By the 75-minute mark, both keepers, Hart and Butland, looked rather untroubled. The Celtic keeper, Joe Hart, though had ended up with a yellow card in the 59th minute. With 10 minutes of normal time left on the clock, a total of eight yellow cards were shown by the referee Nick Walsh. By the first half’s end, only Callum McGregor was in the books.

Celtic enjoyed most of the possession in normal time. They managed to have around 65 per cent of it. Still, it was the opposition side that pounded in with more total shots. But it didn’t matter much as Celtic ended up winning the game all thanks to a goal by Adam Idah in the 90th minute.

Idah had come to the pitch as a substitute in the 62-minute mark to replace Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi. The game did have eight minutes added on time. Rodgers used only three subs in the game while the losing side had used five. Finally, as the whistle blew, Celtic successfully defended their 2023 title by winning here. Now they have 42 Scottish Cup titles.
