Nunez suffered a hamstring injury in a 3-2 defeat against Man United
Due to a hamstring injury sustained during Liverpool’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United, Darwin Nunez has dropped out of Uruguay’s forthcoming friendlies squad.
The 24-year-old forward participated in the entire 120 minutes of Sunday’s exciting FA Cup quarterfinal, but his team was ultimately defeated 4-3 due to a late goal from United rookie Amad. Manager Jurgen Klopp intimated that Nunez had injured his hamstring during that compete, with The Athletic claiming on Monday that he had subsequently withdrawn from Uruguay’s newest squad owing to discomfort in that area.
After the defeat on Sunday, the German manager told BBC Sport:
“Now, the boys go on international duty. We hope they come back healthy. Lucho [Diaz] felt his groin, Darwin [Nunez] hamstring. Cody [Gakpo] twisted his ankle.”
Nunez, who has suffered with hamstring issues this season, was told by both his club and his country not to overexert himself, which is why he withdrew, according to the article.
The news that he is taking a break will be gratefully appreciated by Klopp, who on Sunday went on an angry tirade directed at a reporter, once again bringing attention to the issue of weariness. Despite leading 5-1 after the first leg, the German seems to be suffering from starting his best players against Sparta Prague on Thursday.

The forward for Liverpool will probably take a few treatments back to Merseyside before taking a long break. As a result, on March 23 and 26, respectively, when Uruguay play a friendly against the Basque Country and the Ivory Coast, Marcelo Bielsa will be without his top striker.
Due to the intense calendar of matches the Reds have had lately, the 24-year-old would appreciate the chance to improve his fitness on Merseyside during this infrequent break in the season. With six goals in his last seven games, Nunez should be well-prepared to take on Brighton on Easter Sunday and ideally continue his recent upward trend in goals scored.
