The former United player is set to follow Los Blancosâ transfer strategy to build a strong squad.
David Beckham and Inter Miami want to âbuild our Galacticos,â and the Major League Soccer team is trying to find the next Lionel Messi by adopting Real Madridâs strategy.
Beckham, an icon of Manchester United and England, assisted with the founding of Inter Miami as another expansion team in 2020. In just five years, they have made significant progress.
Their development was accelerated in 2023 when they acquired the eight-time Ballon dâOr winner Messi. A historic Leagues Cup triumph followed just weeks after the Argentine arrived in the United States. After enjoying Supportersâ Shield glory last season, the Herons proceeded to rewrite the record books.
With a 2026 extension possibility to his deal, Messi is still involved in their initiative for the time being, but future plans are being developed in Florida. Beckham stated in the new documentary series âOnside: Major League Soccerâ on Apple TV+:
âYou know, my dream was always to bring the best players to Miami. Itâs not just about bringing the best player there ever was (Messi). Weâve brought in four superstars in our team.
âOur vision, we wanted to create one of the biggest clubs in the world â and I just think itâs good for the sport, I think itâs good for the club, I think itâs great for the league. Itâs a tough league. And itâs a tough league to win a championship but as an owner of Miami, we want to win â itâs simple as that.â
Jorge Mas, a partner of Inter Miami, supported that ambition and added to the Heronsâ lofty hiring objectives:
âWeâre building our Galacticos. We always want to have players to attract global attention. Iâd like to think that if weâre able to seize the moment, we will be successful and people will always look at this and say, âHey the guys at Inter Miami changed Major League Soccer to be one of the best leagues in the world.â But to be able to achieve this, itâs about winning.â
Meanwhile, Messi scored the game-winning goal in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match against Sporting KC in bitterly cold conditions, and Inter Miami won their first competitive match of 2025. On Saturday, they will host New York City FC to kick off their new 2025 Major League Soccer season.
