The former United player is set to follow Los Blancos’ transfer strategy to build a strong squad.

David Beckham and Inter Miami want to “build our Galacticos,” and the Major League Soccer team is trying to find the next Lionel Messi by adopting Real Madrid‘s strategy.

Beckham, an icon of Manchester United and England, assisted with the founding of Inter Miami as another expansion team in 2020. In just five years, they have made significant progress.

Their development was accelerated in 2023 when they acquired the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi. A historic Leagues Cup triumph followed just weeks after the Argentine arrived in the United States. After enjoying Supporters’ Shield glory last season, the Herons proceeded to rewrite the record books.

With a 2026 extension possibility to his deal, Messi is still involved in their initiative for the time being, but future plans are being developed in Florida. Beckham stated in the new documentary series “Onside: Major League Soccer” on Apple TV+:

“You know, my dream was always to bring the best players to Miami. It’s not just about bringing the best player there ever was (Messi). We’ve brought in four superstars in our team.

“Our vision, we wanted to create one of the biggest clubs in the world – and I just think it’s good for the sport, I think it’s good for the club, I think it’s great for the league. It’s a tough league. And it’s a tough league to win a championship but as an owner of Miami, we want to win – it’s simple as that.”

Jorge Mas, a partner of Inter Miami, supported that ambition and added to the Herons’ lofty hiring objectives:

“We’re building our Galacticos. We always want to have players to attract global attention. I’d like to think that if we’re able to seize the moment, we will be successful and people will always look at this and say, ‘Hey the guys at Inter Miami changed Major League Soccer to be one of the best leagues in the world.’ But to be able to achieve this, it’s about winning.”

Meanwhile, Messi scored the game-winning goal in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match against Sporting KC in bitterly cold conditions, and Inter Miami won their first competitive match of 2025. On Saturday, they will host New York City FC to kick off their new 2025 Major League Soccer season.
