England’s Harry Maguire ruled out Euro 2024 campaign due to injury
Maguire suffered fitness issues last season and now misses out on Euro 2024.
Gareth Southgate has excluded Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire from the England team for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
Having been named in Gareth Southgate’s original 33-player preliminary selection, both players join James Maddison, Curtis Jones and James Trafford in losing out on a spot in the final 26-player roster. On the other hand, Jarell Quansah is also anticipated to be excluded.
In just 36 appearances in all tournaments in 2023–24, Grealish netted just three goals for Manchester City as he battled with form. The 28-year-old was crucial to England’s 2020 Euro Final run and was a staple in Southgate’s squad in the past.
Maguire, a centre-back for Manchester United, has been essential to Southgate at the previous three big tournaments. But he hasn’t played since April because of a calf ailment.
Maguire was pursuing an individual schedule and did not take part in today’s (Thursday) team training session, according to a release issued by England on Thursday.
The 31-year-old, who made his senior debut against Lithuania in 2017, was a key player in helping England get to the 2018 World Cup semifinals in Russia.
Other players who couldn’t make England’s squad for Euro 2024
Curtis Jones, a midfielder for Liverpool, is another player who will not make the final England squad for Euro 2024.
Jones is going to team up with James Maddison, who was additionally informed that he won’t make the cut. When Gareth Southgate announced his preliminary 33-man squad for the competition last month, the Anfield star received his first call-up.

However, he and Tottenham midfielder Maddison—who was thought to be among the players in danger of dropping out from the England team after a generally poor second half of the season—will not be going to Germany.
Maddison was expected to feature in Friday’s final warm-up match against Iceland, but Jarrod Bowen is reportedly pressing for Maddison’s spot on the squad.
According to sources, Southgate’s choice to exclude Maddison from the final party is connected to Maddison’s decision to withdraw from the team on Wednesday.
