The forward won the Getafe Player of the Season award
Mason Greenwood, an attacker under contract with Manchester United but on-loan at Getafe, was ‘reportedly’ called up by the Jamaica squad for the June break to defect from England to their team.
After his arrest in January 2022 for suspected domestic abuse and sexual assault, Greenwood was banned by the club. He was accused in October, but after important witnesses withdrew and fresh information was presented, the charges were withdrawn in February 2023.
According to a report from The Athletic, United had apparently intended to bring Greenwood back to the team, but a strong outcry from fans forced a U-turn.
Despite having participated in just one competitive match for Gareth Southgate’s England team, he is valuable in the eyes of the Reggae Boyz. According to FIFA regulations, Greenwood is free to switch allegiance as of next month, given that a request is filed.
When the Jamaica national football team first expressed interest in having Greenwood represent them in 2021, the Football Association made sure that he chose to represent the England national football team in 2021. But Southgate effectively fired him for violating COVID regulations while he was a member of the team.
Although there is no indication that the Three Lions would be interested in having Greenwood return, Southgate might not make the decision because Euro 2024 is most likely going to be his last major tournament as manager.

Has Mason Greenwood been called up to Jamaica’s Copa America 2024 squad?
There are numerous posts claiming that Greenwood was called up by Jamaica for their Copa America provisional roster, but this is untrue as the forward must first request an appeal to FIFA, and there is no relevant evidence of him doing so.
This indicates that he has not yet chosen which country to enter in national competitions. Now that his loan deal with Getafe is finished, Greenwood will return to Manchester United, where they will continue to decide on his future.
Meanwhile, if the player feels like representing Jamaica, he can appeal to FIFA and change allegiance.
