Jonathan David became the second player at the World Cup 2026 to score a hat-trick.

There was a lot of activity on Matchday 8 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including a lot of late drama between games. Here, we summarise the events of the four games, starting with the most recent.

Mexico became the first side to guarantee their spot in the round of 32. South Korea’s custodian error gave Luis Romo a goal in the second half of a hard-fought, tense match.

In front of a boisterous home crowd in Vancouver, Canada, thrashed nine-man Qatar 6-0 to win their first World Cup game spectacularly.

Youngster Johan Manzambi ran rampant as Switzerland’s late onslaught saw them destroy Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the second-half of the match, South Africa rallied back in the 83rd minute. They rightfully tied the score after Czechia took an early lead in a commanding first-half performance.
