Romain Alessandrini has made the decision to finish his football career, having left Shenzhen FC last January without a contract. The former Ligue 1 player shared the news on social media and expressed gratitude to all of his fans. Despite not having intended to retire, the 34-year-old Frenchman gives family reasons for his decision:
“I had to do it for my family and myself, a difficult but wise decision I think…”
“There are many parts of my career that I will never forget… My first professional contract for FC Gueugnon, my two years at Clermont Foot 63 which gave me the opportunity to play in Ligue 1 for Stade Rennais and scoring my first goal in Ligue 1, playing and scoring at the Vélodrome for my hometown Olympique de Marseille, was clearly one of them.
Living in LA and playing for Los Angeles Galaxy probably has was the best time of my career and then I discovered China, another culture, a country and a lifestyle that I learned to appreciate! », he confided on his social networks.
“It’s time to say goodbye to the beautiful game… Thank you for everything,” concluded the former Rennais.
The Marseille native established himself in France at Clermont (2010–2012) before joining Rennes. After these two seasons of goal-scoring success (20 goals in 60 games), he returned to his hometown and his favourite team, OM (2014-2017). Before going into exile in the US and joining LA Galaxy, Romain Alessandrini was a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s renowned OM squad (2017–2019).
After spending four years in the Asian nation, he made an attempt at a Chinese adventure. Qingdao FC (2020–2022) is the first, followed by Shenzhen FC (2022–2024). He was not a French international until February 2013, when Didier Deschamps called him up.

One of the players that LA Galaxy supporters adored the most in recent years was Romain Alessandrini. He rapidly gained the affection of teammates and supporters due to his strong sense of team spirit and fondness for donning the LA Galaxy jersey.
Everyone was disappointed in him for leaving to play in China, but his narrative may potentially take an unexpected turn.
Alessandrini posted a farewell message to the Chinese club on Instagram, the same platform he had used to delicately bid farewell to his followers. The amusing part is that he left a query concerning his future in that message, and it seems like it has something to do with LA Galaxy.
Alessandrini is a fantastic player who might aid in the rebuilding of the LA Galaxy, therefore they should be following what he does. His background and skill set can serve as a model for younger generations. Now his news of retirement may have shocked the MLS club given the player retired so early in his playing career.
