Six German players receive their first national call-up

UEFA Euro 2024 hosts, Germany, continue to prepare for the upcoming tournament and are set to play against France and the Netherlands in the March international break.

Julian Nagelsmann has named a 26-player squad for these two friendlies. There is huge news in the camp as Toni Kroos returns from retirement to anchor the midfield of his national side. He last played for the side in Euro 2020.

There is good news for Bayern Munich youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic. His performances for the German giants have earned him his maiden call-up at the age of 19.

Munich-born Pavlovic is of Serbian descent and although the Serbian FA sent a delegation to meet the midfielder and his family earlier this month, the 21-year-old has opted to represent Germany.

The likes of Maximilian Beier, Deniz Undav, Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstadt and Jan-Niklas Beste are the other five players who will be eager to represent their nations.

The most notable returnee is Manuel Neuer, who will regain his number-one spot at the expense of Marc-André ter Stegen and make his first appearance for the national team since the World Cup. Chris Führich rejoins the squad having missed the November break due to a cold. Robin Koch also makes his return to the national team after nearly a three-year absence from the squad.

This is the last chance to impress head coach Nagelsmann ahead of Euro 2024 with these two friendlies against high-quality opposition being the do-or-die for some players ahead of Germany’s opening game against Scotland in Munich.
