Kane scored a whopping 44 goals across all competitions

The European club football 2023–24 is drawing to an end. Some teams are still trying to add silverware to their cabinet before the European Championship, which begins next month, while others have already created history by capturing league titles.

Individual awards are additionally contested by players throughout a season; the Golden Glove and Golden Boot go to goalkeepers and strikers respectively in their respective leagues.

The greatest individual award in European club football, the Golden Shoe, was still pending the announcement of its receiver. The European Sports Media, a continental association of football journalists, have been selecting winners since the 1967–68 campaign.

Three strikers emerged as the front-runners for this season’s campaign: Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain, Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, and Erling Haaland of Manchester City. With 44 goals for the year, England skipper Kane ultimately took home the Golden Shoe.

Who was the last English player to win the European Golden Shoe?

After Sunderland’s Kevin Phillips in the 1999–2000 campaign, he became the second player from the nation to win the accolade and the first Englishman to win it while playing abroad.

With 36 goals in the Bundesliga alone and 44 goals in all competitions during his debut season, Kane was a revelation for Bayern, but he still managed to finish the season without winning any trophies.

It is anticipated that his pursuit of the elusive big trophies will continue in 2024–25 while he plays for Bayern Munich, amid rumours that he may make a quick exit, moving back to the Premier League.

Although Kane has continued to score goals for pleasure at Bayern, the squad had a terrible season and failed to win any hardware.

Before Manchester United withdrew from negotiations last summer due to demands from Tottenham Hotspur, the 30-year-old was amenable to joining the team.

Kane could consider returning to the Premier League if things under Vincent Kompany don’t work out in the upcoming season.
