This season United have delivered mixed results under the Dutchman
If Manchester United choose to fire Erik ten Hag this summer, they risk going farther behind in the Financial Fair Play rankings.
After a disappointing second season at the club, the Dutchman is clinging to his position at Old Trafford. Newcastle eliminated United from the Carabao Cup and they later finished last in their Champions League group.
They are outsiders to make the Champions League, sitting sixth in the Premier League right now. Co-owner of United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has personally commiserated with Ten Hag for the challenges he’s encountered in his second season at the helm.
While the team has been plagued by injuries all season long, the circumstances surrounding Mason Greenwood, Antony, and Jadon Sancho have diverted attention from on-field efforts.Despite Anthony Martial’s three-month absence from action, Financial Fair Play worries prohibited United from signing a striker in January. Although the board feels sorry about Ten Hag, INEOS will not spare any effort to return United to the top.But if they choose to fire Ten Hag, they will be required to reimburse the Dutchman and his backroom crew for £10 million.

If he is fired before June 30th, that cost will be attributed to the 2023–2024 accounts, bringing United further closer to the cap set by the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
In that case, United would need to offload players in order to make ends meet.
This coming summer, Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Antony, and Jadon Sancho could be available in the market.
Raphael Varane and Martial could depart the team when their contracts expire. Naturally, this presents a unique set of challenges for any prospective suitor, since it implies that pre-season preparations will have to wait until Nagelsmann finish his tenure with Die Mannschaft. In any case, there is still a lot of interest in Nagelsmann’s services.
