Hwang In-beom becomes THIRD South Korean to score & assist in World Cup match

Hwang recorded a goal and an assist in the match.
South Korea rallied to upset the Czech Republic 2-1 in the second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Hwang In-beom scored and set up another goal.
A lacklustre first half saw both sides jeered as they exited the pitch. The Czech Republic seized the lead in the 59th minute with a header from captain Ladislav Krejci following a long throw-in into the penalty area.
South Korea equalised in the 67th minute, with Hwang In-beom scoring after faking a shot with a clever move to clear two Czech players. He then crossed from the right wing for Oh Hyeon-gyu’s game-winning goal in the 80th minute at Guadalajara Stadium, which had hundreds of empty seats.
Czech Republic failed to find the equaliser despite opening the scoring. They suffered a disappointing defeat to Korea. Meanwhile, the Asian nation joined Mexico as the winners in Group A.

Hwang In-beom sets an impressive World Cup record
Hwang In-beom reached that historic milestone with a 2-1 comeback victory over the Czech Republic in the FIFA World Cup 2026 opener. He scored an equaliser in the 67th minute and assisted on Oh Hyeon-gyu’s winning goal.
By doing this, he became the third South Korean player to record a goal and assist in a FIFA World Cup match.
The amazing accomplishment solidified his spot in the record books. Choi Soon-ho (against Italy in 1986) and Hong Myung-bo (vs Spain in 1994) are the only other South Korean players who have scored and assisted in a single World Cup match.
South Korea will now prepare for their second group game against Mexico, who also secured a convincing win against South Africa.
