Juventus predicted lineup for Serie A 2024-25 season
The Old Lady are gearing up to clinch silverware in Italy and Europe.
Juventus embark on the forthcoming Serie A season imbued with lofty ambitions, despite a pre-season marred by adversities under the stewardship of Thiago Motta. Their third-place finish last time, trailing behind Inter Milan and AC Milan, offered glimpses of their latent prowess.
Nonetheless, Juventus’ pre-season was beset with formidable challenges, including a 3-0 debacle against Nurnberg and a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid. These setbacks underscore the formidable hurdles that lie ahead, yet Juventus’ storied resilience is well-documented. The club have consistently demonstrated an ability to surmount various difficulties—whether confronting financial strains, breaches, point deductions or injuries to pivotal players. Although Juventus may be navigating a period of transition, their historical capacity to rebound from hardships make them a significant contender in Serie A.
Thiago Motta aims to propel Juventus not only to domestic glory but also to assert their dominance on the European stage. As they prepare to vie in the UEFA Champions League—the zenith of European club football—Juventus seeks to transcend their recent struggles. Their aim shall be to emerge as a robust contender for the Champions League title in the upcoming season as well as become victorious in Serie A.
In today’s feature, we delve into the strategic mind of Thiago Motta to identify potential players from the Juventus roster who are poised to secure their positions in the starting lineup for the 2024-25 season.
Juventus predicted lineup formation: 4-1-4-1
Goalkeeper: Michele Di Gregorio
Juventus boast a storied legacy of producing some of the world’s finest goalkeepers, with Gianluigi Buffon standing as a testament to their tradition of excellence. Michele Di Gregorio, currently on loan from Monza, is poised to continue this illustrious heritage in the upcoming Serie A season.
Di Gregorio faces a remarkable opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities and uphold the club’s esteemed reputation, particularly in Italy’s premier football division. Having commenced his career with Inter Milan, Di Gregorio’s development was marked by loan spells at Renate, Novara and Monza. His tenure at Monza culminated in a permanent move in 2022. Juventus’ one-year loan arrangement includes a purchase clause at season’s end, further fueling Di Gregorio’s ambition to excel.
Known affectionately as “L Uomo DiGre,” he was a key figure in Inter Milan’s Primavera team that clinched the Campeonato Nazionale Primavera title in the 2016-17 season. Last season, Di Gregorio was honoured as Serie A’s best goalkeeper, underscoring his rising stature. With over 100 appearances for Monza, both during his loan and as a permanent player, Di Gregorio is primed to seize the opportunity to solidify his standing in international football.
Right Back: Danilo
Danilo has emerged as a cornerstone of Juventus’ defence and a steadfast leader, having established himself both as the captain of the Brazilian national team and the Juventus squad. Hailing from Minas, Brazil, Danilo commenced his career at América Mineiro before moving to Santos, where he scored the decisive goal that clinched the 2011 Copa Libertadores title for the club.
His subsequent tenure at Porto, where he made nearly a century of appearances from 2012 to 2015, paved the way for his move to Real Madrid. During his two-season stint at Madrid, his performances earned him a contract with Manchester City. There he contributed four goals in 34 appearances over two years. In 2019, Danilo found a new home at Juventus, where he has continued to be an indispensable player.
In 2012, Marca lauded Danilo, likening him to his compatriot Dani Alves, praising him as a relentless right-back with an attacking flair. His dynamic and tireless runs along the flanks, coupled with his defensive prowess, have cemented his reputation as a formidable player. Juventus will be counting on Danilo to fortify their defence and maintain an impenetrable barrier throughout the upcoming season.
Centre-back: Gleison Bremer
Gleison Bremer, the 6’2″ center-back hailing from Itapitanga, Brazil, is poised to be a pivotal force in Juventus’ defensive lineup, complementing his compatriot and captain, Danilo. Wearing the No. 3 jersey for Juventus, Bremer embarked on his footballing career with Atlético Mineiro, where he made 26 appearances and scored one goal.
In 2018, he transferred to Torino, where he spent four seasons, accumulating over a century of appearances and netting 11 goals. Bremer’s impressive performances at Torino earned him a five-year contract with Juventus in 2022. He marked his debut for Juventus with a goal in a 2-2 draw against Salernitana. Recently, Bremer extended his contract with the club for an additional four years, underscoring his commitment to Juventus.
Renowned for his physical strength, exceptional aerial prowess and keen positional awareness, Bremer has established himself as one of the most formidable centre-backs. He was an integral part of the Juventus squad that secured the Coppa Italia and was named Serie A‘s best defender for the 2021-22 season. Additionally, he has been included in the Serie A Team of the Year for three consecutive years, further highlighting his elite status in Italian football.
Centre-back: Federico Gatti
Federico Gatti, the 26-year-old 6’4″ defender from Rivoli, commenced his footballing odyssey with Torino, where he devoted seven seasons to his youth development. Following loan stints at Saluzzo and Pavarolo, Gatti made a significant impact at Verbania in 2018, registering 51 appearances and six goals.
His impressive performances at Pro Patria led to his acquisition by Juventus in 2022. At Juventus, Gatti has featured prominently, accumulating 50 appearances and netting four goals to date. Regarded as a robust, right-footed centre-back, Gatti has become a linchpin for Juventus. Andrea Gigante, writing for 90minutes.com, commended Gatti’s technique and vision, highlighting his formidable presence in aerial duels and his adeptness at man-to-man marking.
Gatti’s versatility allows him to excel in both a four-man defence and as a centre-right in a three-man setup. Inspired by Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini, Gatti continues to forge his path at the club. He was an integral part of the Juventus squad that recently clinched the Coppa Italia and was honoured with the Serie B Footballer of the Year award for the 2021-22 season.
Left-back: Andrea Cambiaso
Andrea Cambiaso, the 24-year-old fullback hailing from Genoa, emerged from the club’s youth ranks. There he spent five formative years, accumulating 26 appearances and a single goal. His promising performances during loan spells at Empoli, Alessandria, and Savona captured significant attention, leading to his transfer to Juventus in 2022 on a five-year contract.
While with Juventus, Cambiasso was loaned to Bologna. But upon his return, he made a notable impact by scoring in the 6th minute of stoppage time in a crucial 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona. Recently, Cambiasso made his debut for the Italian senior national team in a friendly match against Venezuela, adding to his burgeoning reputation. With seven appearances for Italy so far, Cambiasso, the young talent from Genoa, is poised to make a lasting impression in Serie A, especially as he continues to don the Juventus jersey.
Defensive midfield: Douglas Luiz
Douglas Luiz, also known as Douglas Luiz Suarez de Paulo, is a Brazilian midfielder who has been instrumental in Aston Villa‘s ascension. He notably contributed to their impressive fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season, which secured them a UEFA Champions League berth. Luiz commenced his footballing journey with Vasco da Gama. He even spent time with Manchester City, although his most formative years were during loan spells at Girona.
His pivotal role in Aston Villa’s rise as a formidable force in English football caught the attention of Juventus, who recently secured his services on a five-year contract. Luiz made his Juventus debut in a pre-season friendly against Stade Brestois 29. Internationally, Luiz has represented Brazil at various youth levels and made his senior debut in a friendly against South Korea, in which Brazil triumphed 3-0.
He was a member of the Brazilian U23 squad that clinched the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics and contributed to the national team’s runner-up finish in the 2021 Copa America. Additionally, he was honoured with a spot in the Campeonato Carioca Team of the Year in 2017.
Right Winger: Timothy Weah
Timothy Weah, the dynamic right-back or winger hailing from New York, began his footballing career with Paris Saint-Germain‘s B team, where he made 15 appearances. He also had a loan stint at Celtic. In 2019, Weah signed with Lille, accumulating 89 appearances and netting six goals. His exceptional performances at Lille garnered the attention of Juventus, who secured his services in 2023.
At Juventus, Weah has since played 30 matches, with his inaugural strike coming in a 6-1 triumph over Salernitana during the Coppa Italia Round of 16. Juventus eventually secured the Coppa Italia, defeating Atalanta in the final. Weah has been a key figure for the United States national team, earning 41 caps and scoring six goals.
Despite offers from France, Jamaica and Liberia, he chose to represent the United States. His career highlights include contributing to Lille’s Ligue 1 title in 2021 and Celtic’s Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup victories in the 2018-19 season.
Central midfield: Manuel Locatelli
Amidst swirling speculation linking Manuel Locatelli with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, the six-foot-five-inch defensive midfielder remains resolute in his commitment to Juventus, striving to deliver exemplary performances despite the uncertainty surrounding his future. Locatelli, originally from Lecco, commenced his football journey with AC Milan, where he made 48 appearances and scored twice.
His loan spell at Sassuolo was pivotal, showcasing his talent and catching the eye of scouts, leading to a permanent transfer with Sassuolo, where he enjoyed a successful four-year tenure. His subsequent loan to Juventus saw him impress once more, resulting in a permanent move to the Turin club in 2023. Since then, Locatelli has been a stalwart for Juventus, amassing over 100 appearances and scoring four goals across his loan and permanent periods. On the international stage, he has made 28 appearances and scored three goals for Italy.
Known for his role as a deep-lying midfielder, Locatelli excels in defensive duties and orchestrates play from the midfield, often drawing comparisons to his idol Andrea Pirlo for his ability to control the tempo and distribute the ball with precision. In 2015, The Guardian recognized him as one of the top 50 young players worldwide born in 1998. Locatelli’s accolades include contributing to Juventus’ recent Coppa Italia triumph and being honoured with the Knight of the Order of the Merit of the Italian Republic in 2021.
He was also part of the AC Milan squad that secured the Supercoppa Italiana in 2016. As Juventus look to assert dominance in midfield, Locatelli’s role will be crucial in orchestrating their play and maintaining control in every fixture.
Central midfield: Khephren Thuram
The expectation placed upon the offspring of a renowned footballing legend often carries the duality of potential distraction or the pressure to uphold a storied legacy. Khephren Thuram, son of the illustrious French international Lilian Thuram and younger sibling to Marcus Thuram, has carved out his own niche as a pivotal figure for Nice in recent years.
After amassing over 17 appearances with AS Monaco, Thuram made a significant move to Nice in 2019, where, by the age of 23, he had accumulated 167 appearances. His exceptional form earned him a selection by manager Thierry Henry to represent France at the 2024 Summer Olympics on home soil. However, his new club, Juventus, restricted his participation in the Olympics.
As the Serie A season approaches, it will be intriguing to observe how Thiago Motta harnesses and maximizes Thuram’s considerable talents. Thuram is poised to be a central asset for Juventus, expected to play a crucial role in dominating the midfield and contributing significantly to the club’s aspirations in the upcoming campaign.
Left winger: Kenan Yildiz
Kenan Yildiz, the 19-year-old prodigy from Regensburg, Germany, has swiftly ascended through the footballing echelons, emerging as a standout talent for Juventus. His impressive rise has seen him make 14 appearances and score two goals for Juventus’ next-generation squad. Yildiz’s formative years were marked by a globe-trotting journey that included stints with Jahn Regensburg, Bayern Munich, Saarland Regensburg, and eventually Juventus.
In addition to his club successes, Yildiz has been a crucial player for Turkey, featuring prominently in the U-17 and U-21 squads with a total of 16 appearances. His debut for the senior Turkish national team came in a 1-0 victory over Croatia. He has made a significant impact, including contributing to a 3-2 win against Germany in Berlin.
Born to a Turkish father and a German mother, Yildiz is poised to become one of the most creative midfielders in contemporary football. If his burgeoning potential is properly harnessed, he could evolve into one of the most influential midfielders in the coming years.
Centre-Forward: Dusan Vlahovic
A recent headline from Goal.com has cast doubt on Vlahovic’s value to Juventus, suggesting that he falls short of Cristiano Ronaldo’s stature. They even questioned the merit of his 12 million USD annual salary at the Serie A club. This assertion comes from Francesco Oppini, who argued that he does not merit the substantial salary and is not a striker deserving of Juventus.
Despite the wave of criticism, it is undeniable that Vlahovic possesses exceptional potential and could significantly alter the fortunes of his team at any moment. The Serbian international is currently grappling with frustration after a lacklustre performance at UEFA Euro 2024—where his team failed to progress beyond the group stage, finishing behind Slovenia, Denmark, and England.
He must now focus on leveraging his capabilities. Vlahovic needs to harness his inner drive and channel it into proving his worth, addressing the criticisms through stellar performances in the forthcoming Serie A season.
