Marco Reus bid adieu to Borussia Dortmund after a memorable 12-year spell.

According to multiple reports, Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy are closing in on the free signing of German attacking midfielder Marco Reus following the expiration of his contract with his former club Borussia Dortmund.

After an incredible 12-year spell at German giants Borussia Dortmund, Reus announced his farewell to the Yellow Wall in what proved to be an emotional goodbye between the passionate fanbase and their legendary player.

In the 2023–24 season, the 35-year-old attacking midfielder enjoyed a strong last campaign for Die Schwarzgelben, as he made 42 appearances across all competitions, recording an impressive nine goals and 10 assists in the process.

His performances guided Borussia Dortmund to a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga and the Champions League final, where they ultimately fell short against record holders Real Madrid. The Champions League final also proved to be the German international’s final game for Dortmund, which unfortunately ended in heartbreak.

Following the expiration of his contract, Reus was on the radar of several top clubs across Europe, Saudi Arabia and the United States. The first club that showed concrete interest in acquiring his services were also another MLS side, Charlotte FC, who tried to negotiate a deal quickly in order to fend off interest from other teams.

However, that move eventually fell through, with LA Galaxy now in advanced talks to finalize a contract with the ex-Borussia Dortmund star.

In his 12-year stay at Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus made a staggering 429 appearances, accumulating an astounding 170 goals and 131 assists in the process. These impressive numbers make him the fourth-most-capped player and the second-highest goalscorer in the club’s history. During this period, he won two German Cups, three German Super Cups, two German Footballer of the Year awards and three Bundesliga Player of the Year awards.

In the 2023 MLS, LA Galaxy finished in a disappointing 13th position in the Western Conference. With a big-name signing like Marco Reus, Galaxy are hoping to bolster their roster in order to challenge for potential silverware.
