Lille Olympique Sporting Club, commonly known as LOSC Lille, finished fourth in the Ligue 1 standings last season, narrowly missing the opportunity to overtake Brest for third place. In their new Ligue 1 campaign, Lille have played just one match, securing a victory against a 10-man Reims. In the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, Lille faced Fenerbahçe.

At home, they took the lead with Zhegrova’s dramatic stoppage-time goal. The second leg, however, proved to be a significant challenge, as an own goal allowed Fenerbahçe to equalize, sending the match into extra time. The extra time was nothing short of a thrilling spectacle, especially after Lille were reduced to 10 men following Aïssa Mandi’s red card in the 109th minute.

Despite this setback, fate favoured the brave. A determined 10-man LOSC Lille earned a penalty in the dying moments. Jonathan David, with nerves of steel, calmly converted the penalty in the 118th minute, sealing a dramatic and hard-fought victory for Lille.

The Czech outfit, Slavia Prague, currently sit in second place in the Czech First League standings, having remained unbeaten in their campaign so far. In five matches, they have secured four victories and one draw, showcasing a strong start to their season. Slavia Prague triumphed over Union Saint-Gilloise in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

They established a 3-1 lead in the first leg. In the second leg, an 84th-minute strike from Jurejka sealed their progression to the next round. Now, they are set to face a formidable opponent in the form of LOSC Lille, who have been equally impressive in recent matches.

The standout aspect of Slavia Prague’s form is that they have won each of their last five matches, maintaining an unblemished record. They will be eager to extend this winning streak as they prepare to take on LOSC Lille on their home turf. This clash promises to be an enthralling encounter between two emerging forces in the competition.

Remy Cabella (LOSC Lille)

Rémy Cabella, the 5’7″ attacking midfielder from Ajaccio, France, began his football journey at his local club before joining Montpellier’s academy at the age of 14. With Montpellier, he made nearly a century of appearances, contributing 24 goals. Cabella also spent time at Arles-Avignon before securing a permanent move to Newcastle United in 2014, where he made 31 appearances.

His loan spell at Marseille was particularly impressive, catching the attention of many and ultimately leading to a permanent contract with the club. A similar scenario unfolded during his loan spell at Saint-Étienne, where his performances earned him another permanent deal. After stints at Krasnodar and Montpellier in recent years, Cabella joined Lille in 2022.

Since then, he has made 61 appearances and scored eight goals. Simon Osborne of The Metro has described Cabella as a quick, agile and creative midfielder who excels both on the wing and behind a solid striker. In addition to his club success, Cabella has earned four caps for the French national team.

He was a key part of Montpellier’s squad that won the Ligue 1 title in the 2011-12 season. Cabella will be an essential asset for Lille as they aim to score crucial goals and secure a strong lead in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs.

Matej Jurasek (Slavia Prague)

After impressive performances with Slavia Praha’s second team, where he netted four goals in seven appearances, Jurasek earned a well-deserved promotion to the senior squad. Jurasek has also made his mark on the international stage, having represented the Czech Republic at the U16, U17 and U19 levels. Recently, he made his senior debut in a friendly against Armenia, marking an important milestone in his budding career.
