The Argentine netted a brace in a crucial win.
Lionel Messi realised a rare accomplishment on Wednesday when he scored two goals in Inter Miami’s 2-1 Major League Soccer (MLS) victory over New England Revolution.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning Argentine became the first player in MLS history to score more than one goal in four consecutive regular-season games by scoring in the 27th and 38th minutes of the first half.
Messi’s run started with braces in victories over the Columbus Crew and CF Montréal shortly before Inter Miami’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
Messi tallied twice at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday after scoring another brace against CF Montréal during Miami’s return to Major League Soccer. In the last four games, he has scored eight goals, bringing his season total to 14 goals and seven assists in just 15 games.

This is the most recent of Messi’s many records. He already owned the record for most goals scored for Inter Miami before Wednesday’s game, with 58 to his credit. In addition, he owns league records for the most goals contributed in a single game (6) and assists in a single game (5).
Furthermore, Messi earlier received the Landon Donovan MLS MVP Award as Inter Miami claimed their first Supporters’ Shield championship and set the league’s single-season points record of 74.
“They have been playing together for many, many years, so when they see each other, they connect and they know what the other is thinking – like with the second goal,” coach Mascherano said. “[Busquets] understands when and where Leo wants the ball. It’s fantastic for us because today was a difficult day – we knew New England needed a win and that it would be a tough match.”
