Messi’s side suffered a 4-1 loss to Minnesota United in the MLS.

With supporters on both sides supporting their player while mentioning their titles, statistics, and more, the Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo debate is one of the most intense in sports. However, with greater speed, the Argentine has achieved the most recent goal-scoring milestone.

In Saturday’s devastating 4-1 MLS loss to Minnesota United, Messi scored his 860th goal for Inter Miami. It was only a consolation goal, but the 37-year-old made a beautiful move.

With 934 goals, Ronaldo is far ahead of Lionel Messi, who has also reached the 860 milestone. The former Barcelona player, however, completed it considerably more quickly—just 1,098 games were required. That made him almost a year younger and 91 games shorter than Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s 860th goal came in a Saudi Pro League match versus Damac via a spectacular free kick, which is uncommon given how frequently he takes and misses them nowadays.

Despite only turning 40, the former Real Madrid player is determined to become the first player to hit 1,000 goals in his career. It doesn’t appear that he will be retiring anytime soon.

It’s still unclear when Lionel Messi will hang up his boots, but he will turn 38 in June. He may surpass his adversary in reaching other milestones because, like Ronaldo, he still appears to have a few more seasons left.

Messi’s current contract situation at Inter Miami

Journalist Jose Armando of Claro Sports claims that Lionel Messi’s chances of staying with the squad after his current contract expires are only 50%.

Messi, who signed a 2.5-year contract with Inter Miami in 2023, is expected to remain with the team until December 2025.

With a fixed salary of almost $20.5 million every season, his contract, which includes significant business deals with Apple and Adidas, takes his yearly earnings to almost $60 million.

No official deal has been made, despite Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas’s prior anticipation that Messi would extend his stay within two to three months in April.
