List of all Bayern Munich managers in history; Jupp Heynckes, Pep Guardiola & more
Vincent Kompany joined the German giants ahead of the 2024-25 season
Vincent Kompany has been named the new head coach of Bayern Munich following an agreement to pay Burnley around £10 million.
After failing to convince Thomas Tuchel to stay at the end of this season, Bayern made a surprise offer for Kompany and he readily accepted a three-year contract. The position had been previously declined by Xabi Alonso, their previous coach Julian Nagelsmann and even Austria’s coach Ralf Rangnick.
However, Vincent Kompany’s appointment is fairly risky as his former side Burnley were relegated from the Premier League. Though the former Manchester City captain and defender led a dismal campaign with just five wins, he had an incredible debut season as manager at Turf Moor, conquering the 2022-23 EFL Championship with 101 points.
Nevertheless, Kompany is fluent in German and has experience in the Bundesliga from his time as a player at Hamburg.
Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, said: “Vincent Kompany is a type of coach who fits in very well with FC Bayern’s playing philosophy and identity: his teams want the ball, want to play dominant and high-intensity football. He is a young, very ambitious coach who brings a lot of international experience, has his finger on the pulse of the players and knows exactly what should happen on the pitch. He can and will give our team an enormous amount.”
Bayern have seen many managers over the decades. It will be interesting to see whether Kompany will be a good fit for this Bayern side that has been one of the most dominant clubs, but before that let’s take a look at the list of all Die Roten managers.
