Italian national team coach Luciano Spalletti wishes to appoint three legends as assistant coaches for the upcoming Euro 2024. He’s asked to take Baggio, Del Piero, and Totti to the 2024 European Championship and beyond. Buffon is also already engaged.

Four Italian greats—Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti, and Giancarlo Antognoni—were asked by Italy coach Luciano Spalletti to see the Azzurri training session at Coverciano prior to this summer’s Euro 2024.

In an extended conversation with Il Corriere dello Sport, the Azzurri CT discussed his vision for football, Euro 2024, Napoli, and his ex-star Daniele De Rossi.

“When we start preparation for the Euros at Coverciano, I’d like to bring four No.10: Baggio, Del Piero, Totti and Antognoni,” the CT continued.

“I’ve already spoken to Gravina about this. Think about them watching a training session. It would push the lads to raise the bar. The Federation will soon send invitations. If you want, I can also mention a No.10 between the sticks and not only.”

Roberto Mancini was replaced as manager of Italy by Spalletti. After leading Napoli to its first Serie A championship in thirty-three years, the 64-year-old resigned from his position as manager at the end of the previous campaign. In recognition of his achievements, he was named to the national squad.

Although he had intended to take a year off from football, he returned to the game quickly after receiving the large offer, as Mancini had left the role unfilled when he left earlier this month.

Mancini managed the national squad for five years. He led Manchester City to their first Premier League championship in 2011–12.

His illustrious Euro 2020 campaign peaked when his team overcame a deficit to defeat England in the championship game at Wembley on penalties.

But when Italy was unable to earn a spot in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, despair ensued. Spalletti took over as the national team’s manager on September 1 of last year.
