The Red Devils captain suffered an injury blow in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.
Bruno Fernandes’ injury during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa has delivered Manchester United a severe blow ahead of the hectic holiday season.
After losing Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Ruben Amorim’s team was already without key stars.
Kobbie Mainoo was unable to play against Villa after joining Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire on the injury list.
Following Christmas, United will play Newcastle and Wolves at Old Trafford before travelling to Leeds and Burnley in the New Year. At Villa Park, Fernandes felt his hamstring as he pulled up near the conclusion of the first half.
The United captain played until the conclusion of the first half before being replaced at halftime. He was observed walking very slowly as he made his way to the away dugout.
Man United injury news

Fernandes will miss the Boxing Day match against Newcastle, according to Amorim, who revealed he has a “soft tissue” problem. While Mainoo will also miss out.
“I think Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno are out vs Newcastle”.
“We are going to find solutions. For sure. No excuses. We need to win the next game”. said Rúben Amorim after the 2-1 defeat against Villa.
Fernandes is scheduled to get scans. But he looks set to be out for atleast a month.
De Ligt & Maguire update
De Ligt hasn’t worn a United shirt in four games. At first, Amorim was optimistic that De Ligt wouldn’t be out for too long, but it has been almost a month since the central defender was eligible for selection, and it is still unclear when he is going to play again.

Since hobbling off in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham prior to the November international break, Harry Maguire has been sidelined for a longer period of time and still, there is no update on when he will return.
Šeško has returned from injury, but United will be without a lot of players in the upcoming match. A couple of youngsters could be in line for their first start for the club on Boxing Day.
