Manchester United lift 13th FA Cup title after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in final
The Red Devils qualify for Europe next season
Manchester United won the FA Cup 2023-24 after a 2-1 win over defending champions Manchester City. This win takes the Red Devils to their 13th FA Cup title.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored a goal each in the first half to give their side a comfortable lead. Jeremy Doku got a goal back for his side but Man City were unable to score another one.
Pep Guardiola was without his No 1 choice in goal. Ederson was injured and replaced by Ortega. Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, John Stones and Kyle Walker completed the back four. Mateo Kovacic and Rodri sat in the midfield. The attack comprised Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.
Erik ten Hag finally had four defenders in his backline. Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka guarded Andre Onana in goal. Amrabat and Mainoo were given the command of the midfield. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes led the attack.
Manchester United came up with a game plan and tried to catch the defending champions on the counter. The Red Devils were successful in breaking City’s rhythm. A break at the 30th-minute mark allowed them to take the lead. A long ball from Manchester United’s half caused a disturbance in City’s backline. Josko Gvardiol headed the ball back to his keeper, who was charging for the ball. The ball went over his head and Garnacho found the back of the open goal.
The red side of Manchester extended their lead in the 39th minute. Kobbie Mainoo got his name on the scoresheet this time. These two youngsters have been at the top of their game and showed why they have a big future at the club. Man United went with a 2-0 lead into the second half.

Manchester City came all guns blazing in the second half. Jeremy Doku was introduced and he added a bit of pace to City’s attack. Erling Haaland struck the crossbar and Kyle Walker’s long-range effort was saved by Onana. The defending champions were unable to break the deadlock.
Jeremy Doku made the difference in the 86th minute. His shot caught out Andre Onana on his near post and Pep’s men were back in the game.
Man United were able to defend their lead and also booked their place in the UEFA Europa League 2023-24. Erik ten Hag won his second trophy as Manchester United manager.
