Probably the biggest modern-day rivalry in English football

No rivalry gets bigger than this in England these days, such as the Manchester derby, the clash between Manchester United and Manchester City. The first-ever match between these two clubs based in Manchester, England, was played back in 1881. Since then we have seen a total of 152 fierce clashes. Although City are more dominant now, United still have won more games against them as per history.

The Red Devils have 63 wins in all competitions against the Cityzens. Man City have had 11 fewer wins than their opponents. They have won on 52 occasions. There also have been times when the final whistle couldn’t separate them based on the scoreline. A total of 38 draws have occurred between these two mighty clubs of England.

While City have won the Premier League title, including the latest 2023-24, back to back for a fourth consecutive season, we see United without any competition trophy for the past five years.

How many trophies have Manchester United won in their history?

Manchester United have won a good chunk of trophies in their ever-present history. In the FA Cup, we see them in the runners-up spot for their total tally of 13 titles. Only Arsenal have outdone them in this competition. The Gunners have won the cup a record 14 times.

The Red Devils have had 21-odd successes in the FA Community Shield. In the UEFA Champions League, we have seen them lift the title a total of three times. The last one came during Cristiano Ronaldo‘s first stint at the club, the 2007-08 season. They were also recognised as FIFA Club World Cup winners in 2008. Talking about the Premier League, United have a total of 20 titles to their name.

How many trophies have Manchester City won in their history?

Manchester City also have had success in the FA Cup. They have collected seven titles so far. The latest one came in 2023. It was the best year in their historic existence. Their maiden UEFA Champions League win, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, all came in 2023. FA Community Shield has been won by the Cityzens for a total of six times.

City won their first-ever Premier League title back in the 1936-37 season. Till 2018-19, they managed to tally a total of only six league titles. But with four consecutive PL titles beginning from the 2020-21 season, they now have a total of 10 with the end of the 2023-24 season.

Who has won more trophies in their history?

The Red side of Manchester has won a total of 68 titles since its existence. This includes every other trophy they have collected since their foundation back in 1878. The Blue part of Manchester also has had a fair share of title-winning seasons but still, they are lagging behind United. Man City, founded in 1880, have managed to secure 35 titles. They are still far off the chase but their recent glorious years suggest that they are here to compete.
