Marcos Alonso has struggled to get playing minutes for Catalan giants
The 33-year-old Marcos Alonso will go as a free agent at the conclusion of the contract, according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted the news.
Alonso joined the La Liga powerhouses on September 2 and played in his first league game, a 4-0 victory over Cadiz, eight days after arriving. Under manager Xavi, he won the league championship in his rookie campaign.During his 18 months in Barcelona, the former star of Chelsea has made 44 outings and netted three goals. However, the defender has struggled this season as a result of a back ailment, missing many games.
He said: “Understand Marcos Alonso will leave Barcelona as a free agent at the end of the current season. “Massive respect between club and player but he’s leaving in June, decision made. “Sergi Roberto could also leave for free but the final decision will also depend on Xavi’s future.”
His time has also been reduced because he will be leaving Barcelona as a free agent even if his contract expires in the summer.

The Spain international earned a £24 million contract with Chelsea in 2016 before joining Barcelona. He had previously played for Fiorentina. He won every trophy a Premier League team could win while at the Blues, including the league championship in his first season as well as the FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.Alonso played in 212 games for the team over his six years there, tallying 29 goals. In addition to spending a total of three seasons at Bolton and a half-term on loan at Sunderland, Alonso started his career with Real Madrid.
Although it was anticipated that the Spaniard would depart once the transfer window opened in January and he apparently is receiving offers from other Saudi Pro League clubs, the player has not any plan of leaving until the end of his current contract.
Alonso’s deal has a condition that lets Barcelona keep him for an additional year as long as he participates in half of the team’s games this year. It is improbable that the former Chelsea player would be a regular fixture in Xavi’s squad for the rest of the season after only 299 minutes on the pitch.
