Chelsea parted ways with Pochettino yesterday

After parting ways with Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a new job. Two years after losing out on the race for Manchester United’s managerial position, Mauricio Pochettino is once again a contender.

With Erik ten Hag holding onto his position at Old Trafford, Pochettino departed Chelsea by mutual agreement, and INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be prepared to speak with the former Tottenham manager.

In April 2022, when he was getting ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain, the 52-year-old Argentine was engaged in a two-horse competition with Ten Hag for the United position.

It is believed that he communicated with John Murtough and Richard Arnold, United’s then-kingmakers, at that time. But were persuaded by Ten Hag’s profound understanding of United and his suggestions for improving things.

The Dutchman won the Carabao Cup and finished third in his debut season, exactly like that. However, this season has seen a complete 180-degree turnabout, as seen by an eighth-place Premier League result and a Champions League group stage exit.

United will play their neighbour Manchester City in a rematch of last year’s Wembley blockbuster in this Saturday’s FA Cup Final. However, Ten Hag could still be out even in the improbable case that he prevails in that.

In a recent interview with Sky, Ratcliffe, the new part-owner of United, declined once more to publicly express his trust in Ten Hag. Rather than focus on this, he would have rather discussed the club’s setup, which has produced unsuccessful managers.

Pochettino’s thrilling style of play propelled Tottenham to the Champions League Final in 2019, when they defeated Ten Hag’s Ajax with a thrilling comeback in the semi-final second leg in Amsterdam. Pochettino is sure to be well-liked by the supporters. Two managers who are jubilant at their promotion to the Premier League are considered strong candidates to replace Poch at Stamford Bridge.

Kieran McKenna of Ipswich is one of those who has also been connected to the Old Trafford position. The other, whose position at the King Power facility is currently far from assured, is Enzo Maresca of Leicester.

Other names that have previously been brought up include Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness and former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi.
