The 2025 MLS season is set to begin on Saturday, February 22. In light of this, the league formally unveils San Diego FC as its 30th team during its MLS is Back weekend.

Major League Soccer will begin its 30th season competition on Saturday, February 22 with the Major League Soccer is Back inaugural weekend, which will feature all 30 MLS clubs.

The reigning Supporters’ Shield victors Inter Miami CF will take on New York City FC. The next day, San Diego FC will kick off its inaugural campaign at Dignity Health Sports Park against the defending Major League Soccer Cup sponsored by Audi champion LA Galaxy.

When will be the MLS All-Star game?

The 2025 MLS All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 23 at Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. On Tuesday, July 22, AT&T will present the Major League Soccer All-Star Skills Challenge. The opponent for the 2025 MLS All-Star Game and more information on the AT&T-sponsored 2025 Major League Soccer All-Star Skills Competition will be revealed later.

What is new Rivalry Week?

The league’s most illustrious and historic rivalry matches will be featured at Major League Soccer Rivalry Week, which will take place over two matchdays from May 14–18.

On Wednesday, May 14, St. Louis City SC will host Sporting Kansas City at Energizer Park to kick off Rivalry Week. On Saturday, May 17, there will be six rivalry competitions, including one at Citi Field between New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls.

The Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC square off in a Cascadia Cup match at Providence Park in one of the nation’s longest soccer rivalries.

On Sunday, May 18, Orlando City SC will travel to Chase Stadium to play their rival Inter Miami CF from Florida, capping out Major League Soccer Rivalry Week. In the much-anticipated El Tráfico, LAFC travel to play crosstown rivals LA Galaxy.

What is the 2025 season format?

All MLS clubs are scheduled for 34 regular season games starting this season, 17 at home and 17 away, in the format as follows: every team will play its conference rivals in a reciprocal visit (28 games) and six more games against six opponents from the opposing conference. This is due to the addition of San Diego FC as the 30th Major League Soccer franchise.

To play in the Leagues Cup, the season will take a break from July 29 to August 31. To ensure more equality in the competition, not all Major League Soccer clubs will take part this time.
