The Argentine’s deal will end after the culmination of the year.

In concerning news for MLS and coach Javier Mascherano’s team because a recent report has examined Lionel Messi’s chances of staying at Inter Miami for the upcoming season. The league was transformed by his entrance. His exploits rekindled interest in American soccer around the world.

However, Lionel Messi’s future in Major League Soccer is unclear, and the potential consequences are causing anxiety to spread throughout the league, Miami, and the coaching staff of the team.

Messi joining Inter Miami in 2023 was historic for the team as well as the league as a whole. In addition to showcasing his unmatched talent, the World Cup-winning Argentine also attracted international attention.

He led the Herons to their first-ever trophy in his debut season, winning the 2023 Leagues Cup and then the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. Under his leadership, the team rose from mid-table obscurity to become one of the most powerful teams in the league.

The Messi influence was equally potent off the field. Attendance skyrocketed. Viewership soared worldwide. The buzz had returned.

However, the excitement is gradually giving way to anxiety. Even though club co-owner Jorge Mas has previously stated his faith in an extension, no deal has been achieved as of yet. The great veteran’s contract expires in December 2025.

Engage in play

“As of May 1, Lionel Messi has not signed a contract extension with Inter Miami. The same is true for [Jordi] Alba, [Sergio] Busquets, and [Luis] Suarez,” reported Jose Armando of Claro Sports. According to his sources, the chances of Messi staying at Inter Miami next year currently stand at just 50%.

There is a long shadow created by that 50% figure. The Argentine legend has been the cornerstone of MLS’s future chapter, especially for Inter Miami.

However, as they get ready for important tournaments like the 2025 Leagues Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, they suddenly have to deal with the very real possibility of losing him.

After 10 games, Inter Miami have 21 points with six victories, three draws, and one loss, good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Beneath those figures, however, is a feeling of disappointment.

After a crushing 5-1 aggregate loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals, the squad was eliminated, and questions are beginning to arise regarding the project’s future.
