Newcastle United injury update ahead of Brighton & Manchester United clash; Kieran Trippier on brink of return
Eddie Howe says Trippier could be in contention to face the Seagulls
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has given an update on Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar’s injuries before Saturday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Following Kieran Trippier’s return to regular practice this week, Newcastle United will make a last-minute decision on the right-back.
After missing the previous nine games because of a calf injury sustained during the 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers two months ago, Trippier remained last week in Dubai. Newcastle looks to continue their push for European qualifying as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion in their last home game at St James’ Park this season.
Providing an update on Trippier’s fitness, Howe said: “He’s getting closer. He’s trained this week for the first time with the group which has been brilliant.
“We can really see the strength of the group returning with key players back. [Trippier] trained well, it has been a good week for him. I will make a decision today whether he will be involved [v Brighton].

“He’s desperate to be involved and has been desperate to contribute for a few weeks. But I think he knows and is experienced enough to know he has to manage his injury to make sure there is no reoccurrence of that calf.
“That would be very difficult for him if that did happen to him but from watching him training this week, I think he’s looked really good.”
suffering from a hamstring injury, Howe had previously acknowledged he doubted the defender would play again this campaign. However, he has since hinted that Schar would play against Brentford or Manchester United.
During Newcastle’s 4-1 victory over Burnley last weekend, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, and Nick Pope made their comebacks from injury by starting on the bench. Additionally, the Magpies’ manager must decide who of the three will start on Saturday against Brighton.
With three games remaining in the Premier League, Newcastle enters the encounter ranked sixth.
