Forest are 10th in the Premier League table.

The Football Association (FA) penalized Nottingham Forest £750,000 for putting the game into contempt. The club disputed the match referees’ honesty after losing to Everton the previous season.

On April 21, the team protested on X about three penalty calls that went against them during Everton’s 2-0 victory at Goodison Park.

An independent commission went against them, adding that it noted “clear evidence of a lack of genuine remorse” from Forest.

Forest rejected that they had tarnished the reputation of the game or questioned the honesty of the officials. Forest posted on social media around five minutes after full-time in the game at Goodison Park last season.

“Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept,” the club wrote on X. ”Our patience has been tested multiple times.”

Anthony Taylor denied penalty claims on the field following Ashley Young’s tackle on Gio Reyna, his handball, and a failed tackle on Callum Hudson-Odoi. Stuart Attwell, the video assistant referee (VAR), did not step in.

Additionally, Forest claimed to have “warned” the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMO) that the video assistant referee was an advocate of Luton Town, a team that was in danger of relegation.

The loss put Forest, who ultimately managed to escape relegation from the Premier League, one point above the bottom three.

Retired referee Mark Clattenburg, who had served as a referee analyst at Forest earlier in the season, wrote a column in the Daily Mail the next day. He justified the club’s conduct and detailed a “hat-trick of howlers” from the officials.

Clattenburg resigned from the position two weeks later, claiming that it had caused “unintended friction” between Forest and other Premier League teams.

Meanwhile, this season Forest have been impressive as they sit 10th in the league with 10 points and one defeat under Nuno Espírito Santo.
