Gomez attributed the test’s failure, according to the Spanish publication Relevo, to taking his kids’ sick syrup without first visiting the club’s physicians during a restless night. It was decided that an explanation was insufficient to keep one from being banned.
The player’s sentence was only given this week, even though Gomez and Sevilla were aware of the failed test some months prior. After spending 2.5 years with Sevilla, Gomez departed the team by mutual consent on September 1st. He then finalised an agreement to sign with Monza, an Italian team. The Serie A team confirmed the ban by saying: “AC Monza announces that it has received today – October 20 2023 – from FIFA, through the FIGC, notification of the first degree sentence of the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission, issued against the footballer Alejandro Dario Gomez.
