Top five players who could score opening goal of FIFA World Cup 2026

The flagship tournament starts on June 11.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is about to get underway. A total of 1,248 players across 48 nations will be coming in to battle it out for the prestigious title.

The expanded tournament is not going to be an easy one. Recently, Spain were held to a 1-1 draw by Iraq in what was a friendly outing. Two-time world champions France fell prey to the Ivory Coast. Even though these outings were friendlies and many of the top players were missing, it gives us an idea that there can be upsets at the world stage this time around.

On the opening day of the FIFA World Cup 2026 (June 11), we will get to see Mexico vs South Africa and South Korea vs Czechia. These are going to be quite entertaining fixtures and it will be interesting to see the teams earn their first three points.

Players who can score first goal at 2026 FIFA World Cup

Raul Jimenez

The player for the Premier League side Fulham, Raul Jimenez, is going to play an important role in the final third for the Mexico national football team. He is most likely to start for El Tri in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Jimenez can be the one to open the scoring at the mega competition.

Even though they are set to take on one of the co-hosts, Bafana Bafana will be looking to make an impact from the first game. Foster will be looking to become the first star to score the opening goal at the 2026 World Cup.

Julian Quinones

Julian Quinones can be another Mexican star who can shine on the opening day of FIFA’s flagship tournament. He has been in a top run of form in the Saudi Pro League and will now be looking to come up with top performances for the Mexico national football team. Quinones might even start alongside Raul Jimenez, if El Tri opts to go with two strikers.

Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min is considered the best player to ever play for the South Korea national football team. He can play on the left wing, but has recently focused his performances as a striker for both his club and country.
