Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing his sixth FIFA World Cup in 2026

Portugal are one of the darkhorse heavyweights in the upcoming 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup. They are now led by Roberto Martinez, who has previously led the Belgium team to World Cup bronze before winning the UEFA Nations League with Portugal.

The squad looks really promising on paper and players are selected from diverse leagues and clubs, which makes it even more fascinating.

Portugal are drawn in a relatively easier group alongside Colombia, Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. If there are no big upsets in the group stages, there is a high chance that the footballing world might witness Messi vs Ronaldo in the World Cup quarterfinals.

After all, the man who has single-handedly carried Portugal’s continental and World Cup hopes will have his last dance at the World Cup 2026. This would be an extra motivation for the Portuguese players to shine and excel and give a proper farewell to one of the greatest of all time.

The squad has maximum players from the English Premier League, and the midfield duo of Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva are coming after a brilliant season. Diogo Costa is coming after winning the Portuguese top flight, whereas the majority of players are from PSG, who are on the verge of winning their second UCL.

Joao Cancelo won the LaLiga with Barcelona. Apart from just European leagues, the Saudi Pro League also contributes three players to the squad, including captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
