This will be The Eagles’ maiden Euro Cup campaign

The Serbian national team is gearing up for its historic debut at the European Championship as an independent nation, and head coach Dragan Stojkovic has unveiled a preliminary squad brimming with talent. The initial selection features a staggering 35 players, highlighting the depth and competition within the Serbian ranks.

While nine players will be cut before the final 26-man squad submission to UEFA by June 7th, Stojkovic’s decision reflects his desire to fine-tune his team ahead of the tournament in Germany. This extended training period allows him to assess a wider pool of talent and experiment with different tactical formations.

One of the most exciting aspects of the Serbian squad is its attacking firepower. Captain Dusan Tadic, a veteran playmaker currently plying his trade with Fenerbahce, provides experience and leadership. He’ll be joined by a potent trio of strikers: Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic, and Luka Jovic.

Mitrovic, a proven goal-scorer at club level with Al Hilal, offers a physical presence and aerial threat. Vlahovic, a rising star at Juventus, brings exceptional finishing and technical skills. Jovic, on loan at Milan, adds pace and dribbling ability to the mix.

In the midfield, Serbia boasts a vital cog in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Al Hilal star provides a commanding presence in the centre of the park, dictating the tempo with his passing range and powerful long shots.

While Serbia’s attacking prowess is undeniable, building a strong defensive unit will be crucial to their success in the Euro Cup 2024. This is Serbia’s first foray into the Euros as an independent nation, and they enter the tournament with a burning desire to make their mark.

The initial 35-man squad reflects Stojkovic’s ambition and the belief that Serbia can compete with the established European powerhouses.

The upcoming weeks will be crucial for refining tactics and team chemistry. With a squad boasting experience, talent, and a fighting spirit, Serbia is poised to be a force to be reckoned with at Euro 2024. They may not be favourites, but they certainly have the potential to spring a few surprises in Germany.
