They are placed in Group A for the mega competition!

The Hugo Broos-led side are now ready to battle it out at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is all set to take place in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

South Africa’s final 26-man contingent are also scheduled to compete in an international friendly on May 29 against Nicaragua. This is before setting foot on the grandest stage of them all. FIFA’s flagship tournament will begin on June 11.

Bafana Bafana are placed in Group A along with the likes of Mexico, South Korea and Czechia. This is not going to be an easy group stage run for them, but they will be looking to put up a strong fight.

Lyle Foster and Oswin Appollis are going to play an important role. To control the midfield, Hugo Broos has opted for options like Jayden Adams, Sphephelo Sithole, Thalente Mbatha and Teboho Mokoena.

Nkosinathi Sibisi, Khuliso Mudau, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, and others will form a strong defensive wall. Ronwen Williams is most likely to be the first-choice goalkeeper for the South African national football team.

However, there are some stars which have been left out. Does the final Bafana Bafana squad have more experienced players, which could be an advantage for them? Or could they have chosen better?

4. Thabiso Monyane

The Kaizer Chiefs star has not been included. He has played two games for the South African national football team. He put in decent performances for his club this season.

But it seems they were not enough to make the final 26-man squad for the mega competition.

3. Patrick Maswanganyi

The Orlando Pirates playmaker has also been left out of the 26-man Bafana Bafana roster for the FIFA World Cup 2026. In 34 games for his club, he has scored 10 goals and has four assists to his name. The 28-year-old is capable of controlling the midfield well.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s head coach went with Jayden Adams, Sphephelo Sithole, Thalente Mbatha and Teboho Mokoena.

2. Brandon Petersen

Despite performing well for Kaizer Chiefs this season, Brandon Petersen has not been included in the final list to represent South Africa on the grandest stage of them all. In 35 games for his club, the 31-year-old secured 18 clean sheets in the ongoing campaign. His inclusion could’ve been a smart choice for Hugo Broos.

He opted for Ronwen Williams, Ricardo Goss and Sipho Chaine.

1. Thapelo Morena

Thapelo Morena has made 33 appearances for the South Africa national football team, but has not been included in the final squad for the upcoming edition of FIFA’s flagship tournament. Due to a recent injury, the right-back has been left out of the final list of players. This can be heartbreaking for a player who has played an important role for his national team.

Will Thapelo Morena play for South Africa in the FIFA World Cup 2026?

No, he has not been included in the final roster. The player is not fit enough.

Who is the head coach of the South Africa national football team?

Hugo Broos.

Which teams will South Africa face in the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026?

Mexico, South Korea and Czechia
