Some of the top talents in England

England manager Gareth Southgate recently announced the squad for the international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. While the announcement packed in a few major surprises, there were also notable exclusions from the squad, with many missing through injuries.

Here are the top 5 players missing this international window through injury-

5. Reece James

Reece James’ versatility makes him a key cog in Southgate’s lineup, often playing on the right side of a back three. His withdrawal from the squad is a result of ongoing issues, including a hamstring injury, which has led to his return to Chelsea for assessment. The defender’s availability is highly doubtful for the upcoming Euros too.

4. Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish is currently excluded from the England squad facing Brazil and Belgium due to a groin injury. The injury has sidelined the Manchester City midfielder, with reports indicating that he is likely to be out for multiple weeks. Grealish’s absence from the squad for the international break is a significant setback, impacting England’s lineup for the upcoming matches.

3. Keiran Trippier

Despite England’s golden generation in terms of right-backs, Keiran Trippier has been a trusted deputy of Southgate, be it playing on the right or left. His absence from the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium is due to an injury concern, which has led to his exclusion from the squad as Gareth Southgate finalizes his selection for the matches.

2. Mason Mount

Mason Mount is a regular starter for the national team when he’s available. He usually sits in with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in a midfield trio, responsible for carrying the ball out of the midfield. However, the Manchester United star has been injured for some time now. His absence is attributed to a calf injury that will keep him out of action for up to a month. This injury has sidelined Mount, who has been determined to work hard and make a swift return to the pitch after a challenging start to the season due to various setbacks, including injuries. Despite being fully fit, reports indicate that Mount’s calf injury has led to his exclusion from the squad, adding to Manchester United’s injury woes this season.

1. Trent Alexander Arnold

Trent Alexander Arnold has never been a shoo-in in the England starting lineup under Southgate. However, the right-back will undoubtedly be a major miss for the England setup due to his stellar creative output. Alexander-Arnold’s hamstring injury, which forced him off during Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa, has led to his absence from the upcoming games.
