The new season of the Europa League is here!
Every season, some of the top football clubs in Europe compete for continental championship in the UEFA Europa League (UEL). Behind the UEFA Champions League, it is the continent’s second-tier club competition.
The previous group stages were replaced with a new model in the 2024–2025 UEFA Europa League, and will continue in this season. Under the new league structure, 36 clubs contend for a round of 16 berth.
Direct advancement to the round of 16 is guaranteed for the top eight teams in the league standings. Teams ranked 9–24 will compete in the play-offs for the knockout phase. The winner of these eight games will fill the remaining berths in the round of 16. Teams will be directly eliminated if they place 25th or lower.
January 31 marks the conclusion of the league phase. The round of 16 is scheduled for March 2025, and the knockout phase play-offs are set for February 2025. In April and May, respectively, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be held.
Istanbul’s Beşiktaş Park will stage the 2026 UEFA Europa League final, which is set to take place on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
The UEL winners also get a direct place in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League the following season. Additionally, they will face the winners of the UCL 2025–26 in the UEFA Super Cup the following year.
Sevilla are the most successful team in the tournament with seven UEL titles under their belt. With three titles apiece, Liverpool, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid come next.
