Lionel Messi will miss the match against the New York Red Bulls with a hamstring injury

According to reports, Lionel Messi has scheduled his injured comeback at Inter Miami. The Argentine sensation will miss two more MLS games.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient was substituted off the pitch early in the second half of Nashville’s CONCACAF Champions Cup match on March 13. Taking no chances with his fitness, the Argentine legend did not participate in a 3-1 victory over D.C. United.

In addition, Messi was left off of the most recent Argentina roster, which gave him time to relax and exercise lightly in Florida. Although the all-time great’s issue is not thought to be significant, he won’t be hurried back into action.

Journalist Hernan Claus of Diario Ole claims that Messi won’t be able to travel to see the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. On March 30, Tata Martino plays a home match against New York City FC; he will also be playing sans his lucky captain. Messi is expected to return on April 3 for a Champions Cup match against Monterrey.

As he exercises on a physical injury in his right leg, Claus says that Messi’s rehabilitation is “going well.” Inter Miami is optimistic that Messi will be in “optimal condition” for a match against Mexican foes at Chase Stadium.

Apart from Messi, two other players on the team—forward Leonardo Campana and defender Nicolás Freire—trained alone because of soreness in their muscles. Both are questionable for the game on Saturday. There are no selection issues that head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino needs to worry about before the encounter in New York. The former manager of Barcelona and Mexico will also be without a number of men who had been called up for international action besides to the players with injuries.

First-choice goalkeeper Drake Callender (USMNT), Diego Gómez (Paraguay), Shane Boreglin (Haiti), David Rúiz (Honduras), and Federico Redondo—who will play for the Argentina Under-23 team against Mexico—are some of the players who won’t be playing against NYRB.

Conversely, Martino will have access to the talents of Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez, the trio that left Barcelona, who will lead a team looking to build on its successful start to the new campaign.Despite having played more games than any other team in the league, Las Garzas lead both the Eastern Conference and the whole MLS standings based on total goal difference.
