The Herons come into this game on the back of a 4-1 defeat.
Tonight, the San Jose Earthquakes and Inter Miami will play their second Major League Soccer match at PayPal Park.
Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami have suffered a drop in performance. Their previous results are enough to justify their poor showing. They have only secured one win in their last five matches across all competitions.
Last weekend, Inter Miami travelled to the Allianz Field in the hopes of winning back-to-back league games for the first time since March, but Minnesota United crushed them 4-1.
The Herons have battled for stability since claiming four straight league games in March. They have only won two of the last six games, with two wins and a few losses.
Javier Mascherano’s team is now fourth in the Eastern Conference rankings with 21 points after 11 games, four points below leaders FC Cincinnati and second-place Columbus Crew, who are locked on 25 points each, despite only managing two victories in their last six league games.
If other results go their way, a win for the visitors might move them up to third place in the standings, surpassing the Philadelphia Union.
Their star player, Messi, who has continued to score goals, will once again be important to spearhead the Herons in this game. But will he play?
Will Lionel Messi play tonight?
Yes, Messi will play tonight. This season, Messi has not been able to remain at his full fitness, but the forward contributed in many important matches. Out of 11, the Argentine has featured in eight games, scoring five goals so far this season.
Despite playing in fewer games, his impact has been massive for the Herons as he hopes to lead them to a win in tonight’s match.
The former Barcelona forward will look to help his side avoid another defeat as they hope to cut the gap with the league leaders and challenge for the MLS Supporters’ Shield once again.
