After a scoreless draw in the first leg last week in Nashville, Lionel Messi and his teammates will play Nashville SC in the second-leg match of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.
In Major League Soccer (MLS), Inter Miami and Charlotte FC drew 0-0 last Saturday. Messi’s absence was a major factor in the game. Now that Nashville SC’s Concacaf Champions Cup match is upon us, head coach Javier Mascherano discussed the availability of the Argentine forward.
Mascherano was questioned about Messi’s and Rodrigo De Paul’s absences from the previous game during Tuesday’s press conference. He said:
“They didn’t travel, and it was a decision we made together with them. We preferred they avoid the trip and get some rest.”
The Herons are now concentrating on the Concacaf Champions Cup, where they will play Nashville SC tonight at Chase Stadium, after that MLS game. They want to move on to the quarterfinals following a 0-0 stalemate in the first leg. So this matchup will be crucial.
