Lewis Hamilton names his best race since joining Mercedes

The seven-time world champion holds this particular Grand Prix closest to his heart.

Sir Lewis Hamilton MBE needs no introduction. The legendary British Formula 1 racer is undoubtedly one of the best drivers to have ever graced motorsport.

His career in Formula 1 is simply unmatched because of the innumerable awards that he has received.  A total of seven World Championships spread across 15 years in the paddock easily affirms his status as the greatest. Some of the other crazy numbers surrounding Lewis and his F1 career so far are his 103 race wins, and 4,443.5 career points.

Ever since joining Mercedes back in 2013, the Englishman has written such a beautiful script, that no driver can ever manage to replicate. His performances were superhuman at times, and some of the things that he has done on the tracks, are unfathomable.

Throughout the span of these 10 years with the German constructors, Lewis has driven some outstanding races, and has given world-class performances in almost every track that he has raced at. From the narrow tracks of Monaco to the sweeping corners of Silverstone, Hamilton has triumphed on a number of occasions, but there is one particular race that he holds closest to his heart. This is the 2021 Brazilian GP, when Lewis Hamilton shook up the entire world by winning the race from a P10 start under insanely dramatic circumstances.

The 2021 Brazilian GP recap

The 2021 Brazilian GP weekend started with Lewis securing a pole position for the Sprint race, which was to be held a day prior to the main race on Saturday. Due to a problem with his Drag Reduction System, the Britisher was given a start at the back of the grid.

Lewis did exceptionally well in the Sprint, and despite starting 20th, he managed to muster up a P5 finish by the end of the 24 laps. But as fate would have it, Lewis was once again given a 5-place grid penalty due to the replacement of his ICE (internal combustion engine) component and therefore had to start the race from 10th in the grid.

Then came Sunday, and everybody expected Max Verstappen to clinch a victory and consolidate his positioning in the World Championship, and very little was expected from Lewis.

But interestingly, right from the start of the race at the Interlagos Circuit in São Paulo, Lewis was hustling his Mercedes around like a man possessed. He was shooting past fellow racers with such ease, that it left every onlooker shell-shocked. Before you knew it, Lewis Hamilton climbed up to third in the race in just 17 laps.

From there on, Lewis didn’t look back and kept closing in on the number one position. On the 60th lap of the race, Lewis was able to drive past his arch-rival Max Verstappen at turn four and took the lead in a race, in which nobody expected him to be the first to get to the chequered flag. But as all legends do, Lewis Hamilton on that Sunday afternoon, proved to everyone why he is the best ever, and wrote a beautiful chapter to his already glittering legacy.
