It was street circuit maestro Sergio Perez who clinched pole position in the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix qualifying, setting up a very tasty-looking grid for the Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc crashed between turns 7 and 8, the upgraded Ferrari with new floor bits requiring a change in gearbox which will be the third component out of the allotted four.

Championship leader Max Verstappen could not complete a banker lap, leaving him stranded as the Red Flags were brought out for the stricken Ferrari.

This meant that there will be an Aston Martin on the front row, as the masterful Fernando Alonso managed to hang on to Perez's Red Bull and lost out narrowly in the final sector. Carlos Sainz will start in third place, and Kevin Magnussen in the Haas will start fourth in the team's first home race after a brilliant display.

Alpine have looked strong all weekend, and their efforts resulted in Gasly clinching P5. George Russell will start sixth, Leclerc seventh and Ocon eighth. The final two Q3 runners were Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas. Lewis Hamilton will start in 13th place after a scrappy qualifying session.

Drivers Championship

2022 World Champion Max Verstappen is first with 93 points. Sergio Perez sits second six points behind the Dutchman and Fernando Alonso is keeping pace in third with 60 points. Lewis Hamilton is fourth with 48 points, the Ferrari pair of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are fifth and sixth with 34 and 28 points respectively.

Russell is tied with Leclerc on points in seventhm and Lance Stroll picks up eighth spot one point behind.

Constructors Championship

Red Bull lead the charge, 180 points to their name. Aston Martin are second with 87, Mercedes third with 76 and Ferrari, with their horrid start, are fourth with 62 points. McLaren sit in fifth with 14 points and Alpine are sixth with 8 points.
