Magnussen has only managed two top-10 finish in the F1 grand prix in the ongoing 2023 season.
It’s no secret that Formula 1 is a challenging sport to break into, and the fierce competition among junior drivers to reach the pinnacle of motorsports also puts pressure on current drivers to perform at their best. And although the 2023 season has been one of the most competitive seasons in recent years, Haas’ Kevin Magnussen seems to be struggling with only one Q3 appearance so far on the calendar.
As the 2024 season approaches, let’s take a closer look at three drivers who could be strong contenders for the coveted seat at Haas.
3. Jehan Daruvala
While it may come as a surprise that Jehan Daruvala could be a contender for the Haas F1 seat, the Indian driver made a name for himself as a title challenger with PREMA Racing during the 2019 Formula 3 campaign, securing third place with two wins and five additional podiums. Stepping up to Formula 2 with Carlin, Daruvala showcased his talent by securing two podium finishes, including a race win, during his rookie season.
However, what sets Daruvala apart from other competitors is the potential sponsorship funding he can bring to the team. This is because his father is a board member of the Indian solar company Sterling and Wilson, estimated to be worth €2.5 billion. This financial backing could play a significant role in securing his seat at Haas.

2. Antonio Giovinazzi
Antonio Giovinazzi is no stranger to the world of Formula 1, having joined Alfa Romeo as a full-time driver in 2019. He had his best season in 2020, scoring 18 points. Although he left Formula One at the end of 2021, he continued his racing career with Ferrari – AF Corse in the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship.
Now, as a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari and Alfa Romeo Racing, Giovinazzi could very well be the driver Haas is looking for.
1. Pietro Fittipaldi
Arguably the strongest contender for Kevin Magnussen’s seat is Haas’ reserve driver, Pietro Fittipaldi. The Brazilian driver joined the team back in 2019 and has been an integral part of the team’s development, participating in various tests, practice sessions and contributing to their simulator program.
Moreover, in 2020, Fittipaldi replaced the injured Romain Grosjean for the Sakhir and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Therefore, his race experience and the fact that he has extended his relationship with Haas into a fifth consecutive season in 2023 could make him a strong candidate to replace Kevin Magnussen, should the need arise.
