Which team is F1 & McLaren driver Oscar Piastri supporting in IPL 2024?

With the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the 22nd of March, the sport has been gaining some real hype this season. The stadium and the cricketing world can be seen with fans supporting their favourite teams with unreal enthusiasm.

However, this time we have a completely unexpected personality joining the IPL craze this season: Oscar Piastri. The Australian F1 star reached out to the social media looking for a team to support.

Oscar Piastri has been off to a great start this Formula One season backing P4 at both Saudi Arabian and the Australian Grand Prix. He currently stands at the 5th position in the Drivers Championship with 28 points.

On 27 March (Wednesday), Oscar Piastri posted on X asking the IPL enthusiasts to suggest him a team to support. He stated, “Getting into the @IPL this year. Any suggestions who I should support?”

How did the IPL world react to Oscar Piastri’s tweet?

Reacting to McLaren driver Oscar Piastri’s question, several famous personalities from the cricketing world have dropped down their recommendations. Among them was the Australia ODI and Test Captain, Patt Cummins, who asked him to back his IPL team, i.e. Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH).

SRH in the recent match with MI (Mumbai Indians), set a record by posting a total of 277/3, which is to date the highest score in IPL history. Although MI didn’t run short and managed to give their rivals a tough competition by scoring a total of 246/5 but fell short by 31 runs.

Several other prominent figures like Kevin Pieterson, former Indian racer Karun Chandhok and Maserati MSG Racing star Jehan Daruvala also gave their suggestions.

Jehan Daruvala suggested his hometown team, Mumbai Indians, while Karun Chandhok asked the young McLaren driver to go with Chennai Super Kings. In contrast, England star Kevin Pietersen named his last team, Delhi Capitals.

It is no secret that Piastri’s interest in IPL fever has added an extra layer of drama and twist. Now it is for the McLaren driver to decide which team he wants to support this season.
