Cyberpunk 2077 surpasses 40 Million copies sold worldwide, outpaces The Witcher 3

Nearly six years after its launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved one of the biggest and most amazing comebacks in the gaming industry. The developers, CD Projekt RED, have officially confirmed that this title has now sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.
This is a very major milestone for a new franchise, which was introduced after The Witcher. You know what the best part is? In terms of sales during the same six-year period, it has outpaced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Cyberpunk 2077 overtakes The Witcher 3âs Six-Year sales
According to the developers, this game has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. In the same six-year time period, this game has sold more than 10 million copies more than The Witcher 3, which only managed to reach the 30 million mark in the first six-year period.
The momentum for this game is on a whole other level. In late July 2025, CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has crossed the 35 million copies mark. This means that this title has sold another 5 million copies in just a few months.
Do remember that this game has not received any new content update or DLC expansion.

The future of Cyberpunk
For now, the future of Cyberpunk is super bright. This franchise is already receiving a 2nd anime season on Netflix, which will release in the fall of 2026.
CD Projekt RED is already working on a sequel, which is currently known as Project Orion. Some additional projects that are rumored to be set in the Cyberpunk universe.
